Since the first Land Rover was unveiled at the Amsterdam Motor Show in 1948, it has been considered the iconic father of cross-country vehicles. The production run of the final Defender edition is about to come to an end, an occasion that STARTECH commemorates with an exclusive special model. The STARTECH SIXTY8 is based on the Land Rover Defender 110 Station Wagon – either on the five-seater or seven-seater variant – and comes in a limited edition of just 68 vehicles.
The limited edition sets itself apart from the rest on account of its “Corris Grey Metallic” body, contrasting ”Santorini Black” roof and its SIXTY8 badges. The STARTECH Series 3.1 appearance package lends the Defender an exciting vintage look reflecting the style of the unforgotten Land Rover Series 3 built between 1971 and 1984.
To this end, the STARTECH designers sculpted a new front, which transfers the design idiom of the classic model with the unmistakable shape of its radiator grille to modern times. The black painted radiator grille, bumper and air intakes in the front fenders as well as a robust aluminum underride guard with laser-engraved SIXTY8 logo lend the Land Rover an even more distinctive face.
Of course, drivers of the special model can rely on state-of-the-art lighting technology: the STARTECH Series 3.1 front component is equipped with two round LED main headlights, which make even nighttime expeditions far away from civilization a safe affair. All other exterior lighting equipment features the same state-of-the-art LED technology.
In addition, STARTECH equips the Defender with precise-fit extensions for the production fender flares and fits black running boards with corrugated metal steps. As another special feature, the Defender sports tinted panoramic glazing in the rear to protect the rear passengers and the cargo bay from prying eyes.
The likewise black painted STARTECH Monostar D alloys also offer unadulterated vintage design. They styling echoes that of the classic heavy-duty steel rims of the Land Rover models. Nonetheless, they offer all advantages of modern wheel technology. The wheels of size 8.5Jx18 are mounted with BF Goodrich All-Terrain A/T off-road tires of size 265/65 R 18. The interior welcomes driver and passengers with a luxurious ambiance created in the STARTECH company upholstery shop. In the case of the SIXTY8 special model, the upholstery was crafted with utmost precision and stunning workmanship from especially soft and breathable “Tan Light Brown” and “Ebony Black” leather. The hallmark STARTECH diamond quilting of the leather with black contrasting seams adds elegant highlights. The headliner and the sun visors are covered with fine black Alcantara.
Comfortable sports front seats with armrests specifically designed for this purpose provide perfect support even in rough terrain. Of course, the seats are equipped with seat heating and their longer seat consoles let even tall occupants find their perfect seating position. A glove box stylishly integrated into the dashboard and the classy interior trim of the liftgate are additional standout features.
A STARTECH sports steering wheel, stainless-steel scuff plates and aluminum components such as shift knob, emergency brake lever and pedals with SIXTY8 logo add sporty highlights in the interior.
A special center stack with SIXTY8 Limited Edition badge not only catches the eye in the cockpit, but also offers space for a double-DIN multimedia system from ALPINE with 4 x 50 watts of power. It features a DVD drive, SD card slot, USB port and Bluetooth technology for playing back music or movies. What’s more: the 6.1-inch touch screen also displays the image of the 3D navigation system and automatically switches to the backup camera when reverse gear is engaged.
