2024 Scout Traveler SUV and Terra Truck Concepts Electrify the Off-Road Adventure
Scout Motors has taken a bold step into the future of electric off-roading with the unveiling of its 2024 Scout Traveler SUV and Scout Terra Truck concepts. Designed and engineered in Michigan and set to be manufactured in South Carolina, these vehicles aim to redefine rugged capability and versatility while paying homage to their iconic predecessors from the 1960s and '70s.
A Revival of an American Icon
The Scout nameplate, once synonymous with off-road prowess and everyday utility, is making a return under Scout Motors Inc., an American company now owned by Volkswagen Group. Drawing inspiration from the original International Harvester Scout produced between 1961 and 1980, the 2024 Scout Traveler SUV and Terra Truck concepts are poised to capture the spirit of adventure for a new generation.
Engineered for Adventure and Utility
Built on an all-new proprietary body-on-frame platform with a solid rear axle, the 2024 Scout Traveler and Terra are designed to deliver exceptional off-road performance and capability. The Traveler SUV boasts projected towing capacity of over 7,000 pounds and nearly 2,000 pounds of payload, while the Terra Truck is expected to tow more than 10,000 pounds with the same payload capacity. Both models aim to offer features like up to 35-inch tires, over 12 inches of ground clearance, and the ability to ford nearly three feet of water.
Impressive Power and Capability
Equipped with a four-wheel-drive system featuring electric drive units on both axles, the fully electric versions of these vehicles are anticipated to produce nearly 1,000 lb-ft of torque. This immense power is projected to enable 0-60 mph acceleration in as quick as 3.5 seconds. The vehicles are also designed to climb 100 percent grades, making them formidable contenders in the off-road segment.
Design That Honors the Scout Legacy
The design of the 2024 Scout Traveler and Terra stays true to the rugged aesthetics of their predecessors, featuring bold and iconic proportions. With short front overhangs, long dash-to-axle ratios, and a visual weight shifted towards the rear, these vehicles present a commanding stance. The interiors focus on simplicity and functionality, utilizing durable materials and providing tactile controls for a hands-on user experience.
Innovative Energy Systems
Understanding the concerns of drivers transitioning to electric vehicles, Scout Motors plans to offer two energy systems: fully electric and range-extended electric configurations. The fully electric models are expected to provide up to 350 miles of range, while the range-extended versions, equipped with a built-in gas-powered generator named "Harvester," aim to offer more than 500 miles of range. This approach allows customers to choose the option that best fits their lifestyle without sacrificing off-road capability.
A New Approach to Customer Experience
Scout Motors is opting for a direct-to-consumer sales and service model, similar to companies like Tesla and Rivian. Customers will be able to purchase their vehicles directly from Scout Motors, with transparent pricing and a streamlined purchasing process. This model is designed to provide a seamless experience from reservation to delivery, with dedicated Scout Workshops offering test drives and service. Additionally, the vehicles are engineered for robust repairability, with approximately 80 percent of repairs able to be completed outside of traditional service centers.
Reservations and Pricing
Reservations for the 2024 Scout Traveler SUV and Terra Truck concepts open on October 24, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. EDT. Embracing the Future of American Off-Roading
With the introduction of the 2024 Scout Traveler and Terra concepts, Scout Motors is set to revitalize an iconic American brand while embracing modern electric vehicle technology. Balancing heritage-inspired design with cutting-edge performance and customer-centric service, these vehicles aim to redefine what it means to be an off-road companion in the electric age.
