2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS: Power and Performance Meet Open-Top Excitement

Thirty years after the introduction of the Boxster concept car, Porsche has unveiled the new Porsche 718 Spyder RS, its most powerful mid-engine roadster to date. Borrowing its naturally aspirated engine from the 911 GT3, the 718 Spyder RS offers a unique driving experience for open-top sports car enthusiasts.

High-Revving Naturally Aspirated Engine and Lightweight Construction

The 718 Spyder RS features a four-liter six-cylinder boxer engine capable of reaching 9,000 rpm, producing 493 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a short-ratio seven-speed PDK transmission, the roadster can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds, reaching a top track speed of 191 mph. The 718 Spyder RS boasts an additional 79 hp compared to the previous 718 Spyder and accelerates 0.5 seconds faster. In addition to the more powerful engine, the Spyder RS weighs 59 pounds less than the 2023 Porsche 718 Spyder with optional PDK.

Balanced Aerodynamics

The front end of the 718 Spyder RS shares similarities with the 718 Cayman GT4 RS. Equipped with a ducktail spoiler, the aerodynamic components are meticulously coordinated to maintain the car's balance and contribute to driving stability.

Lightweight Soft-Top Design

The 718 Spyder RS comes with a unique, manually-operated lightweight soft top, which consists of a sunshield and weather protector. Weighing just over 40 lbs, this design saves more than 16 lbs compared to the 718 Spyder and over 36 lbs versus the 718 Boxster.

Sport Suspension for Precision and Agility

The chassis of the 718 Spyder RS combines components from the 718 Cayman GT4 RS and the 718 Spyder. It comes standard with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with sport calibration, lowered by 30 millimeters, Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with a mechanical rear limited-slip differential, ball joint-type suspension bearings, and 20-inch forged alloy wheels. Spring and damper rates are reduced compared to the 718 Cayman GT4 RS to achieve a more relaxed, convertible-style setup. An optional front axle lift system is also available.

Performance-Focused Interior

The interior of the 718 Spyder RS features a Race-Tex covered GT Sport steering wheel, Full Bucket seats made of lightweight CFRP, and black leather seat covers with contrasting perforated Race-Tex seat centers. The optional Weissach Package offers further lightweight and sporty equipment, including forged magnesium wheels and titanium tailpipes.

Pricing for the new 2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS starts at $160,700, excluding $1,450 for delivery, processing, and handling. U.S. dealers are expected to receive the vehicle in Spring 2024. The public premiere will take place in June, celebrating 75 years of Porsche sports cars in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, followed by an appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England.
