The alternative long-distance sports car; Advanced, powerful V6 diesel engine creates a high performance compact SUV with surprisingly low fuel consumption and excellent range. Powered by a 2,967 cc, water-cooled V6 turbo-diesel engine delivering 258 hp between 4,000 rpm and 4,250 rpm, and 580 Nm of torque between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm. Capable of accelerating from rest to 62 mph in just 6.3 seconds before reaching a maximum speed of 142 mph; achieves 44.8-46.3 mpg on the combined cycle, and emits 159-164 g/km of CO2 (range of figures due to different wheel-tyre choice). - The Macan S Diesel is a vehicle of many talents: a sports car comfortable on and off road; a comfortable, long distance companion with great fuel range, or a dynamic drive with strong mid-range acceleration
- The structure of the Macan S Diesel is identical to that of the petrol-powered Macan S, with a strong and light monocoque that boasts a low centre of gravity for an SUV. This has been achieved through a range of measures, including using different metals where there properties are best suited, and large panels such as the bonnet and tailgate being made out of aluminium
- The Macan S uses multi-link suspension on the front and rear axle, with coil springs and twin tube dampers as the standard specification. As an option, the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system is available, offering a choice of three settings: Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus. A further option is Porsche air suspension, which includes height adjustment, self-levelling and the PASM system. This system provides three levels of ride height, the highest (+ 40mm) intended for off-road driving, while the lower setting at (-15mm) makes for an even sportier drive on-road
- The Macan S Diesel is powered by a 2,967 cc, water-cooled V6 turbo-diesel engine delivering 258 hp between 4,000 rpm and 4,250 rpm, and 580 Nm of torque between 1,750 and 2,500 rpm. This engine is well known from the Cayenne, but has been modified here for increased performance. It meets the Euro 6 emissions standard thanks, in part, to a particulate filter that ensures low NOx emissions
- The Macan S uses the Porsche twin-clutch seven-speed automatic gearbox (PDK), with manual control of gearshifts via the gear selector or paddles fixed behind the steering wheel. This gives a particularly sporty driving style, not normally associated with a diesel SUV. The engine’s output is delivered to all four wheels via Porsche Traction Management (PTM), an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch: drive is sent first to the rear wheels, with the split to the front axle calculated via a range of parameters. An off-road button on the centre console switches all the relevant systems to a traction-orientated mode
- The high torque output of the Macan S Diesel means especially strong mid-range acceleration. It’s capable of accelerating from rest to 62 mph in just 6.3 seconds, and then going on to a maximum speed of 142 mph. The standout economy figure is 44.8-46.3 mpg on the combined cycle, and it emits 159-164 g/km of CO2 (range of figures due to different wheel-tyre choice)
- The braking system of the Macan S Diesel is identical to its petrol-powered relation: 350mm vented discs on the front axle and 330mm on the rear, gripped by aluminium monobloc calipers of six-piston up front, and of four-piston type at the rear axle
- The coefficient of drag for the Macan Diesel S is just 0.35, an outstanding figure for an SUV. A flat underbody and active radiator shutters that close at higher speeds contribute to this performance
- The cabin architecture of the Macan S Diesel will be familiar to anyone with experience of the current range of Porsche sports cars. Although it offers a raised driving position promoting confidence and affording good vision, it still feels inherently sporty. A wide range of comfort, safety and infotainment options are available on the options list, including advanced driver assistance systems and the powerful Burmester sound system
