Lamborghini Unveils the 2024 Huracán Sterrato: A Super Sports Car Rethought for Off-Road Thrills
Lamborghini revealed the Huracán Sterrato at Art Basel in Miami Beach, introducing a unique take on super sports cars — a vehicle capable of delivering high-speed thrills not just on paved roads but also on loose and dirt surfaces. This innovative adaptation reaffirms the brand's philosophy of creating brave, authentic, and unexpected experiences for drivers.
Reimagining Sportiness: The Sterrato Experience
Lamborghini’s Huracán Sterrato presents an intriguing blend of dynamic performance and off-road capability. Compared to the Huracán EVO, the Sterrato introduces a new perspective to the Huracán line, courtesy of an updated Lamborghini Integrated Vehicle Dynamics (LDVI) system, re-calibrated for STRADA and SPORT modes, and the newly added RALLY mode for tackling low-grip conditions.
Design Aesthetics: A New Definition of Muscularity
The exterior of the Sterrato is notably distinctive, hinting at its adventurous spirit. The vehicle's ground clearance has increased by approximately 1.73 inches, while the front and rear track widths have been extended by 1.18 inches and 1.33 inches respectively. Protective features such as an aluminum front underbody guard, reinforced sills, a rear diffuser, and sturdy wheel arches complement its athletic look. The car’s iconic rear hood air intake emphasizes its sports heritage and functionality, especially when treading on dusty trails.
Engine and Performance: The Heart of the Sterrato
Under the hood, the Sterrato boasts a 5.2-liter V10 engine delivering a power output of approximately 601 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque at 6500 rpm. The powertrain includes a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and an electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system with a rear mechanical self-locking differential. This set-up allows the Sterrato to dash from 0 to approximately 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and achieve a top speed of approximately 160 mph, offering optimum performance across a range of terrains.
Tire and Brake System: Built for Versatility
The Sterrato is equipped with aluminum fixed monoblock calipers — six pistons in the front, four at the rear — and ventilated, cross-drilled carbon-ceramic discs. The discs measure about 14.96 inches in diameter and 1.49 inches in thickness at the front, and 14.02 inches in diameter and 1.26 inches in thickness at the rear. The vehicle sits on 19” rims shod with custom-engineered Bridgestone Dueler AT002 tires, size 235/40 R19 at the front and 285/40 R19 at the rear. These tires incorporate run-flat technology for increased safety and versatility, ensuring the vehicle can still cover up to 50 miles at around 50 mph, even with zero pressure.
Interiors and On-Board Features: Focused on the Driver
The interiors are characterized by exclusive Alcantara Verde Sterrato upholstery, embodying Lamborghini's “feel like a pilot” philosophy that prioritizes the driver's experience and control over the car’s features. The Huracán Sterrato comes equipped with a range of sophisticated on-board services, including Lamborghini Connect with Amazon Alexa integration for voice control over car features and the Lamborghini UNICA app for remote monitoring. It also features an innovative Human Machine Interface (HMI) with new graphics and special driving features, including a digital inclinometer with pitch and roll indicator, a compass, a geographic coordinate indicator, and a steering angle indicator.
Telemetry System: For the Data-Driven Enthusiast
Further enhancing the user experience, the Huracán Sterrato is equipped with a connected telemetry system, allowing drivers to monitor their performance and analyze data via the UNICA app. Apple Watch users can sync their heart rate information with the car’s telemetry system to gauge their driving performance. The Lamborghini Drive Recorder feature allows for the capture of exciting driving moments and adds to the Board Diaries feature: a digital memory book integrated into the UNICA app.
Customization: The Personal Touch
In keeping with Lamborghini’s commitment to customization, the Huracán Sterrato offers near-limitless possibilities for personalizing the vehicle's appearance. Through the Lamborghini Ad Personam program, customers can choose from an impressive palette of 350 exterior colors and over 60 hues for the leather and Alcantara interiors.
Limited production for the Huracán Sterrato will commence in February 2023, with only 1499 units to be made. This car's unique blend of super sports car performance and off-road prowess demonstrates Lamborghini’s bold commitment to innovation and desire to push the boundaries of automotive design.
