Kia Brings Adventure-Ready EV9 ADVNTR and PV5 WKNDR Concepts to SEMA 2024

At this year's Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, Kia America showcased two electrifying concepts that blend rugged capability with innovative design. The 2024 Kia EV9 ADVNTR and PV5 WKNDR concepts highlight the automaker's vision for versatile electric vehicles tailored for adventure and sustainability.

Electrifying the Off-Road: The 2024 Kia EV9 ADVNTR

Building upon the foundation of the forthcoming Kia EV9, the EV9 ADVNTR concept takes the three-row electric SUV to new heights—literally. With a three-inch lift over the standard model and equipped with robust off-road tires and wheels, this concept is engineered to tackle challenging terrains. Custom front and rear fascias give it a distinct and rugged appearance, while reinforced rocker panels enhance both capability and character.

The EV9 ADVNTR isn't just about looks; it's designed for functionality. A custom roof rack offers versatile storage options, from traditional luggage carriers to bespoke roof-mounted tents, transforming the vehicle into a mobile basecamp. This feature complements the EV9's spacious interior, which already boasts up to 81.9 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded down. The concept embodies Kia's commitment to creating electric vehicles that don't compromise on adventure or utility.

Versatility on Wheels: The Kia PV5 WKNDR Concept

Based on Kia's Purpose Beyond Vehicles (PBV) platform, the PV5 WKNDR concept reimagines the electric van for the modern adventurer. Originally designed for small business and delivery applications, the PV5 is transformed into a lifted, off-road capable vehicle, perfect for extended weekends in the wilderness. Its modular interior functions like a Swiss Army knife, offering customizable configurations to maximize space and utility.

A standout feature of the PV5 WKNDR is the innovative "Gear Head" storage solution. This retractable space provides sheltered exterior storage when the vehicle is stationary, allowing users to stow gear outside the cabin for maximum interior flexibility. The "Gear Head" can also be converted into a mobile pantry, enabling outdoor cooking with panoramic views. Additionally, the concept includes solar panels and unique hydro turbine wheels that contribute to battery recharging, enhancing its self-sufficiency in remote locations.

Understanding the needs of outdoor enthusiasts, Kia has equipped the PV5 WKNDR with practical amenities like an onboard air compressor. This feature can adjust tire pressure on the fly or inflate camping equipment, ensuring you're prepared for any adventure. With its blend of technology and practicality, the PV5 WKNDR demonstrates Kia's forward-thinking approach to electric mobility.

The Foundation: 2025 Kia EV9 and PV5 Platform

The EV9 ADVNTR concept is built upon the forthcoming 2025 Kia EV9, the brand's first all-electric three-row SUV. The standard EV9 features a choice between a 76.1-kWh battery with a 215-horsepower motor and a larger 99.8-kWh battery option. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant delivers up to 379 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, targeting 0-to-60 mph acceleration in about five seconds. With up to 300 miles of estimated range and fast-charging capabilities—recovering 10% to 80% battery in under 25 minutes—the EV9 is set to redefine electric SUVs in the U.S. market.

The PV5 WKNDR draws from Kia's PBV initiative, aiming to provide flexible electric solutions for various applications. The PV5 platform is designed for rideshare and customizable delivery services, with an emphasis on connectivity and efficient fleet management. The WKNDR concept extends this versatility to the consumer market, offering a vehicle that adapts to individual lifestyles while promoting sustainability.

Beyond Organization: A New Approach to Gear Management

Recognizing that outdoor adventures often come with organizational challenges, Kia introduced the concept of "Beyond Organization" alongside these vehicles. This approach emphasizes plug-and-play solutions that streamline gear management and campsite setup, reducing preparation time and allowing more moments to enjoy the journey. By addressing common pain points associated with outdoor activities, Kia aims to enhance the overall experience for enthusiasts.

By fusing rugged design with advanced technology and sustainable features, these concepts hint at a future where electric vehicles are not only environmentally conscious but also fully equipped for exploration. As the automotive landscape continues to evolve, Kia's bold concepts offer a glimpse into how electric vehicles can meet the diverse needs of modern drivers.
