In Cabrio or hatchback version, the model brings motorists the best possible blend of comfort and vitality. Strengthened by this success, the New DS 3 and DS 3 Cabrio unveiled today are even more attractive with their new design features (front end, personalisation possibilities) and functionalities (connectivity, driving assist). For top-notch performance both in the city and out on the open road, the DS brand’s versatile city car new model is powered by the latest PureTech 130 three-cylinder turbo engine and available with the latest-generation EAT6 gearbox on the PureTech 110. And for the icing on the cake, the New DS 3 and New DS 3 Cabrio will also be available in a Performance version packing an impressive 208 bhp.
“An icon.” “A unique object.” “The DS 3 has revolutionised automotive cues.” “A car that has marked its time.” This is how drivers talk about their DS 3. They are proud and more than pleased to have found a car in their own image, a car that stirs desire and puts the magic back in everyday life. That feeling is wholly shared by the DS teams. Renewing a car of this stature was both a pleasure and a challenge. The recipe was to build on what has made the DS 3 a success (personalisation, styling and vitality) and inject it with contemporary technology and equipment, including efficient engines, a connect touchscreen. Also key to the endeavour were the unwavering passion and attention to detail shown by the stylists, technicians and engineers behind the DS.
Avant-Garde Design
A beautiful car with a nice shape. Modern and original. Italian customer (37 years old)
The DS 3 has always posited a beautiful take on the avantgarde and was the first DS to feature the highly expressive “DS LED Vision” light signature. Now it also sports the DS front end, “DS Wings”, sculpted like a work of art with a verticallyoriented grille in a hexagonal shape proudly bearing the DS emblem. Surrounded in chrome to underscore its elegance, the grille extends towards the LED headlamps and fog lamps via two chromed-finished wings – a new feature making its debut on the DS 3. The front end has been upgraded and perfectly matches the front styling of the car, with the double “Wings” making their debut on a DS model. After all, it is entirely natural that the first-ever DS and DS brand icon lead the way! Thus equipped, the New DS 3 has an even more jewel-like presence, worthy of French luxury craftsmanship.
The success of the DS 3 lies in its inimitable styling. The DS design teams have conserved the car’s singular looks with a floating roof, two-tone body/roof colours and the side body line with the shark fin so emblematic of the DS 3’s personality.
The New DS 3 is more unique than ever in terms of personalisation possibilities, including with the roof, body, rear view mirror housings, dashboard strip, gearstick handle. Customers can now choose from 78 body/roof colour combinations and four canvas roofs for the DS 3 Cabrio. Hatchback or cabrio, to each his own DS 3.
Experiential Technology
With technologies shared by all DS models... Unrivalled light quality with DS LED Vision headlamps
As on the new DS 4 and DS 5, the new headlamps, available since July 2014, combine LED technology (with three jewel-like modules, 3W) and Xenon technology (a 25W module) with sequential LED indicators and new LED fog lamps.
The combination of LED and Xenon technology generates a powerful, broad and harmonious light flow for extra visibility and comfort in night driving. It also reduces the energy consumption of dipped beams by 50% and high beams by 67%.
The overall result is more visibility and comfort, especially at night, together with reduced energy consumption.
Mirror Screen compatible with iOS and Android
The new DS 3 models are equipped with Mirror Screen, comprising Apple CarPlay™ or MirrorLink® for Android phones, bringing drivers a smarter, safer and more fun way of enjoying all the personalised features of their smartphones.
The DS driving experience is more high-tech than ever with its 7-inch colour touchscreen. The latest-generation screen provides simpler access to all the vehicle functions (with 20 fewer buttons on the central fascia). It also houses the Mirror Screen service, a connectivity solution compatible with Apple CarPlay™ or MirrorLink®. Drivers can use Apple CarPlay™ to intuitively make calls, consult maps, listen to music and check their messages in a single word or touch of the fingertip. Apple CarPlay™ is easy to use and control, either via the car’s native interface or by activating Siri voice recognition technology, distraction-free.
Their journey ended, DS drivers can extend the motoring experience on their smartphones with MyDS, a free app informing them of their servicing schedule, fuel autonomy and parking location. MyDS is available for Android and iOS.
Drivers with Android smartphones compatible with the MirrorLink® standard can also use MyDS to check and send text messages from the wheel of their DS.
In further proof that DS cars are resolutely technological objects, all DS models are now connected.
As with the rest of the range, the DS 3 will from early 2016 be available with the DS Connect Box including:
- the SOS & Assistance pack: a standard-setting system that sends automatic localised emergency and assistance calls, where necessary calling out the emergency services
- the Monitoring pack: virtual maintenance manual (automatically monitoring mileage and upcoming services) and eco-driving advice based on the technical information generated by the car
- the Mapping pack: vehicle localisation, information via email when entering or leaving a geographical area
- the Tracking pack: in the event of theft, the geographical position of the car is transmitted to the police.
And specific technologies meeting the expectations of DS 3 customers.
Active City Brake
The Active City Brake system helps to prevent minor collisions at low speeds. A short-range laser sensor in the upper windscreen detects obstacles such as a vehicle driving in the same direction or at a halt. At speeds of up to 30 km/h, it identifies potential risks and communicates directly with the braking control unit without the driver having to engage the brake pedal, the aim being to avoid collisions or to limit the consequences by reducing the speed of impact. Automatic braking may bring the vehicle to a complete halt where the situation so requires. In this case, the car is maintained in stationary position for around 1.5 seconds so that the driver can take back control, by pressing on the brake pedal.
Also of note, before activating automatic braking, and if the system identifies an at-risk situation, it pre-fills the hydraulic braking system and approaches the brake pads (the “pre-Fill” function, completely transparent for motorists). If the situation calls for automatic braking, the system will react faster (for a gain of several hundred milliseconds).
New equipment for day-to-day comfort
The New DS 3 models are now equipped with front and rear park assist, a reversing camera with image projection on a 7-inch screen, hill assist (with manual gearbox) making them a concentrate of technologies in a body under 4 metres long.
Refinement And Attention To Detail
More than 20 limited editions since launch, today’s 78 body/roof colour combinations and more than three million possibilities with the wheels, dashboard strip and other features, the DS 3 has a powerful character and plenty of personality. Personalisation is stronger than ever today with ten roof decals available on the hatchback and four canvas roofs on the Cabrio, together with a host of further details, in addition to four roof colours, four canvas roof colours on the Cabrio, ten rearview mirror housings and 15 alloy wheels available on the two body styles.
As a hip and stylish Parisian forever on the cutting edge of fashion, the New DS 3 is available with new trim and new interior design schemes (Basalt black Dinamica cloth, Topaz brown design). It also comes with a new body colour (Aden red) and roof colour (Topaz brown, inspired by gemstones), as well as new alloy wheels.
Fashion is also the inspiration inside, home to a play on materials. Leather, a material that never goes out of style, features on the watchstrap style seat upholstery, an emblematic DS touch available in ultra-premium nappa leather, and on the leather-upholstered dashboard strip with an embossed DS logo. The hood of the instrument cluster can also be covered with imitation leather with contrasting overstitching.
In an ultimate example of attention to detail, the DS 3 combines technology and refinement in a silk-screen print on the quarterlights (So Irrésistible Paris design), laser engravings on the dashboard insert (with the same design on the windows) and on the rear view mirror housings (DS monogram with the Faubourg Addict Pack or with the Ultra Prestige trim).
Beautiful and bold, the DS 3 shakes up automotive cues and lends new life to French-style luxury. For the hatchback and the Cabrio, the keywords remain appeal and vitality.
Dynamic Hyper-Comfort
The DS 3 may well have the appearance of a city car, but it is equally at ease out on the open road owing to its dimensions, conducive to agility, and above all to its high-performance engines. It is available with eight engines: three PureTech threecylinder petrol engines (voted 2015 Engine of the Year) two THP four-cylinder petrol units and three BlueHDi diesels. These in turn are available with three gearboxes – a manual, a semiautomatic and a latest-generation automatic. The result is CO2 emissions as low as 79 g/km (for the BlueHDi 100) and no more than 129 g/km, making the DS 3 ideal for all uses.
The DS 3 also scores high on rear-passenger comfort on long journeys.
A car you like to drive. It’s about pleasure. German customer (47 years old)
Three new features on the New DS 3 are particularly noteworthy: the EAT6 latest-generation automatic gearbox (introduced seven months ago), the new PureTech 130 three-cylinder turbo engine, and a dynamic model with a torquey and powerful engine, the DS 3 Performance.
Pure Tech 110 S&S EAT6: the perfect marriage
The latest-generation EAT6 gearbox on the DS 3 is mated to the PureTech110 S&S three-cylinder engine, fitted with a turbo for generous torque at low engine speeds. This ideal gearboxengine alliance makes for a supple and dynamic drive. Drivers get faster and more seamless gear changes and enhanced at-thewheel pleasure, responsiveness and acceleration. The figures speak for themselves, with combined-cycle fuel consumption of 4.6 litres/100 km for the hatchback and 4.9 litres/100 km for the Cabrio, CO2 emissions of 105 g/km for the hatchback (a 40 g/km or 30% improvement on the VTi 120 automatic) and 112 g/km for the Cabrio – not forgetting 205 Nm of torque.
PureTech 130 S&S 6-speed manual: verve and vitality asset
Available for the first time on the News DS 3s, the PureTech 130 S&S also delivers generous torque at low speeds and maintains that abundance over a broad operating range. The engine gives the DS 3 even more verve and vitality while ensuring the lowest CO2 emissions in the category, at just 105 g/km, and combined-cycle fuel consumption of 4.5 litres/100 km. With maximum power of 96 kW (130 bhp) at 5,500 rpm and maximum torque of 230 Nm (44% more than the VTi 120) from 1,750 rpm (instead of 4,250 with the VTi 120), the PureTech 130 S&S engine is a perfect match for the DS 3. DS 3 Performance: matching performance with versatility The New DS 3 models will also be available in high-performance versions: the DS 3 Performance. These distinctive and dynamic cars combine efficiency with comfort and driving ease with athleticism.
The pedigree of the DS 3 Performance can be neatly summed up in a few key figures: 208 bhp, 300 Nm of torque and CO2 emissions of 125 g/km. These qualities are a result of the tremendous work of the DS Performance teams, who chose to equip the car with a 1.6 THP S&S engine mated to a 6-speed MCM gearbox with shorter gearing (special ratios). The DS 3 Performance is also available with Torsen® limited slip differential for outstanding traction and roadholding.
For even more agility – and all with complete safety – a considerable amount of development work went into the suspension and braking. Ground clearance has been lowered by 15 mm, while front and rear track have been widened (by 26 mm at the front and 14 mm at the back). The DS 3 Performance is also fit with new 323-mm brake discs at the front with special callipers and 249-mm at the back.
Naturally, style was also high on the list of the teams’ priorities. Some parts were redesigned to showcase and underline the vehicle’s dynamic qualities at first glance: a special twin tailpipe, carbon side mouldings, a new sill panel strip, and Matt Black wing extenders. Not forgetting the vehicle interior with, for example, bucket seats in leather and alcantara, with special embroidery.
To echo the model’s impressive performance while offering yet more personalisation possibilities, customers will be able to choose from two trim levels on the Hatchback and Cabrio. The first features six combinations of body and roof colours on the Hatchback and four combination on the Cabrio. The second, “Black Special”, heightens the athletic and refined personality of the car with matte black body paint and a Brillant gold roof (on the Hatchback). The dark body colour is punctuated by carbon touches on the side strips. The interior echoes the exterior with a Brillant gold dashboard and gearstick handle and additional comfort and safety equipment.
For the ultimate in detailing, an interior Carbon Pack and an exterior decoration kit are available to further enhance the DS 3 Performance.
From dynamism to comfort
Comfort is a keyword aboard the New DS 3. Specialy for New DS 3 Cabrio when out on the road. The top can be opened and closed at speeds of up to 120 km/h and the car boasts best-in-class acoustic comfort thanks to its high-quality canvas roof (multilayer canvas composed of composite materials with an inner layer of acrylic for extra soundproofing) and an aerodynamic deflector for the ultimate in acoustic well-being. Day-to-day comfort is also delivered by a capacious boot, with the largest load volume in its segment (285 litres for the hatchback and 245 for the Cabrio). The New DS 3 also scores high on rear passenger comfort on long journeys.
