2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer: A Modern Spin on the Compact SUV Market

In Spring 2020, Chevrolet introduced the 2021 Trailblazer, a model aiming to rejuvenate the burgeoning small SUV segment. With its youthful aesthetic and functional attributes, the Trailblazer strives to sit comfortably between the existing Trax and Equinox models, thereby expanding Chevrolet's SUV offerings. With its robust design and trim packages, this model aims to cater to a range of active lifestyles.

A Daring Design with a Touch of Personality

The 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer boasts a bold, expressive aesthetic that distinguishes it from other SUVs in its segment. Its exterior follows the design cues of its predecessor, the Chevy Blazer, while incorporating a dual-port grille to create a multilayered, dimensional facade. The Trailblazer’s youthful character is further accentuated by its taut bodyside lines, sleek roofline, and large wraparound taillamps that span the liftgate and bodyside. This look amplifies the vehicle's visual width, giving it a more grounded appearance.

Trailblazer ACTIV Trim: Built for the Outdoors

Trailblazer's ACTIV trim takes on a more rugged appearance, with an interpretation of the signature dual-port grille that features a larger opening. Its front fascia has been modified to improve ground clearance, essential for those off-road escapades. This version comes with unique 17-inch Hankook Sport Terrain tires, promising improved performance and comfort on gravel roads. Further enhancing its adventurous spirit, the ACTIV trim includes features like a two-tone roof, standard roof rails, and trapezoid-shaped exhaust tips.

Interior: Combining Comfort with Functionality

Inside, the Trailblazer is designed to be driver-focused, with a dual-cockpit interior and an integrated center stack. Depending on the trim level, various high-quality finishes and stitching options are available. The center console provides ample storage with 3.5 liters (approximately 0.12 cubic feet) of open storage and an additional 4.4 liters (approximately 0.16 cubic feet) under the armrest, including dual cupholders. One of the model’s most practical features is its 40/60 split folding second-row seats, which can accommodate objects up to 8.5 feet long. With the second row folded, storage capacity expands to a sizable 54.4 cubic feet.

Safety and Driver Assistance: Standard and Optional Features

The 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of standard active safety and driver assistance features. This includes Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, among others. For those desiring additional safety measures, options such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Rear Park Assist, and HD Rear Vision Camera are available.

Performance and Drivability

The Trailblazer offers two engine choices: a 1.2L turbo or a 1.3L turbo engine, with the capacity to deliver up to 155 horsepower. Both engines come standard with a Continuously Variable Transmission and selectable stop/start capability, though a nine-speed automatic transmission is available for Trailblazers equipped with the 1.3L engine and all-wheel drive. The model also features Chevy’s selectable All-Wheel Drive, found in the Blazer and Traverse, that allows drivers to activate or deactivate the AWD system as per their requirements.

Finally, the Trailblazer’s arrival in U.S. showrooms in spring 2020 was keenly awaited. As a car that offers a blend of youthful design, performance, and versatile functionality, the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer aimed to carve out its own space in the competitive small SUV market.
