With a reputation built on a harmonious blend of driving enjoyment, refinement, and value, the 2019 Camaro offered a freshly-styled take on this classic muscle car.
Noteworthy Features
The 2019 Camaro, which remains a standout in Chevrolet's spirited car lineup, came with a slew of impressive features. High on the list was the Camaro SS, which introduced the 10L80 10-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission, designed to provide enhanced launch control and line lock. Chevrolet also incorporated their Infotainment 3 systems, adding modern flair and functionality to the car’s interior. Other notable technological integrations were the available Rear Camera Mirror and the Forward Collision Alert system.
Design and Performance
With its 2019 revamp, the Camaro brought to the fore an appealing aesthetic that also served a purpose in boosting performance. Notably, the grille details, along with the hood and fascia vents, were crafted for optimal air flow to either cool components or reduce drag and lift, embodying Chevrolet’s mantra of beauty coupled with performance.
Key design elements included the new front-end styling that distinguished between LS/LT, RS, and SS, each having unique features like fascia, grille, LED dual-element headlamps, and reshaped hood. Noteworthy was the SS-specific front fascia, which incorporated a “flowtie” open bowtie grille emblem and aero-enhancing air curtains. Moreover, Chevrolet offered a distinctive RS Appearance Package on the LT variant, while introducing new rear fascias for all models, new LED taillamps, and updated 20-inch wheel designs on RS and SS models.
The Turbo 1LE
The 2019 lineup saw the addition of the new Camaro Turbo 1LE, complementing the range of 1LE track star variants. Utilizing the impressive capabilities of the Camaro's 2.0L turbocharged engine, this model featured a carefully designed chassis package and a six-speed manual transmission to deliver an exhilarating track-capable performance.
The Turbo 1LE boasted a host of impressive specifications, such as the FE3 suspension with larger diameter front and rear stabilizer bars, a 2.0L turbo engine producing 275 hp (equivalent to 205 kW) and 295 lb-ft of torque (about 400 Nm), and a Brembo brake package. Furthermore, the model featured a nearly 50/50 weight balance and a Driver Mode Selector with Sport Mode and new Track Mode, offering a competitive edge for performance enthusiasts.
State-of-the-Art Technology
On the tech front, the 2019 Camaro introduced Chevrolet’s next-generation Infotainment 3 system. This advanced interface was designed to mirror the functionality of the latest smartphones and tablets, while a cloud connection worked to enhance personalization, navigation, voice recognition, and more.
In addition to the standard 7-inch-diagonal color touchscreen, Chevrolet also offered an available 8-inch diagonal touchscreen running Infotainment 3. Further technology enhancements included an improved standard rear-vision camera system, an Enhanced Performance Data Recorder system, and the introduction of Forward Collision Alert to Camaro’s roster of available active safety features.
With the introduction of the updated 2019 Camaro, Chevrolet once again demonstrated its commitment to merging classic design with modern technology and performance, further enhancing its iconic lineup of vehicles.
