  • BRABUS 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio based on the Mercedes S 63
  • 625 kW / 850 HP, 1,450 Nm of torque and 350 km/h top speed
  • The world’s fastest and most powerful four-seat cabriolet

BRABUS 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio – the world’s fastest and most powerful four-seat cabriolet: What setting would be better suited for the world premiere of this unique supercar than the most famous car race in the world, the 24 Hours of Le Mans?

Motul, one of the leading manufacturers of high-performance lubricants in the world and exclusive technology partner of BRABUS, presents the cabriolet with a power output of 625 kW / 850 HP (838 bhp) and a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph) not only in the paddock of the endurance race classic, but also as part of the official drivers’ parade on the Friday before the race, June 17, 2016.

The BRABUS 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio based on the Mercedes S 63 4MATIC seamlessly continues the tradition of the exclusive high-performance cars from BRABUS. However, the open-top two-door car with all-wheel drive not only impresses on account of its unique performance, but above all with its sporty and elegant appearance featuring naked carbon aerodynamic-enhancement components and 21-inch hi-tech forged wheels.

The twin-turbo eight-cylinder engine in the bow of the cabriolet is constructed in the engine shop of the BRABUS Manufaktur in Bottrop equipped with state-of-the-art machinery. The displacement is increased from 5,461 cc to 5,912 cc (333 to 361 cc) by installing a forged BRABUS special crankshaft with longer stroke, increasing the cylinder bore and fitting the matching forged pistons and high-performance connecting rods. The two cylinder heads are also re-machined to guarantee maximum power delivery.

In addition, the engine peripherals are thoroughly revised. Two BRABUS special turbochargers with larger compressor units and modified exhaust manifolds replace the production turbos on the exhaust side. As part of the engine conversion, BRABUS also installs down pipes with a diameter of 75 millimeters (3 in) and special metal catalysts. The BRABUS stainless-steel sport exhaust system with butterfly valves electronically controlled from the cockpit optimizes the power delivery and the engine sound. In the “Coming Home” standard mode, the high-performance cabriolet has an even more subtle exhaust note than with the production system. On the other hand, when the valves are open, the eight-cylinder twin-turbo engine sounds as sporty as a super sports car.

The intake side of the turbocharged eight-cylinder engine was also revised thoroughly as a matter of course. Immediately conspicuous upon opening the hood is the specially designed and significantly larger BRABUS 850 intake module made from carbon. Just as essential for the power increase are the two more voluminous air filter boxes, which draw their air from a special duct in the hood, and new carbon air ducts with considerably larger cross sections. An especially striking feature is the BRABUS Gold Heat Reflection sheathing for the intake and charge-air pipes of the twin-turbo system.

Precisely calibrated mapping for injection and ignition as well as a modified electronic boost pressure limiter are also part of this high-performance engine, which BRABUS, like all other components, backs with a three-year, 100,000-kilometer/62,000-mile warranty (see BRABUS Warranty Terms and Conditions, updated July 2013). Such a high-performance engine naturally also demands the best available fully synthetic motor oil, which like for all BRABUS engines, is supplied for this supercar together with the hi-tech lubricants for the entire powertrain and the especially heat-resistant brake fluid by technology partner Motul.

As a result of the extensive modifications, the BRABUS 850 6.0 Biturbo engine delivers unrivalled performance figures. The engine produces its peak output of 625 kW / 850 HP (838 bhp) at a low 5,400 rpm. Even more massive is the peak torque of 1,450 Nm (1,069 lb-ft), which is on tap between 2,500 and 4,500 rpm. In the interest of the longevity of the entire powertrain, the peak torque is electronically limited in the car to 1,150 Nm (848 lb-ft).

The power is transferred to the wheels by the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system and a seven-speed automatic transmission whose gears can also be shifted manually with the BRABUS RACE aluminum paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

The power unit in the bow elevates the BRABUS 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio to the position of the world’s most powerful and fastest four-seat all-wheel-drive cabriolet. From rest, the exclusive two-door car accelerates to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.5 seconds and reaches a speed of 200 km/h (124 mph) after just 9.4 seconds. Due to tire limitations, the top speed is limited electronically to 350 km/h (217 mph).

These tremendously high speeds naturally place especially high demands on the aerodynamic-enhancement components, which were developed by the BRABUS designers in the wind tunnel. They are available for all S 63 and S 65 coupes and cabriolets. All bodywork components are manufactured from naked carbon with a high-gloss finishing coat.

The BRABUS front spoiler attaches to the front bumper and lends the two-door car full-blooded racing looks while reducing lift on the front axle at high speeds for further improved handling stability. Tailor-made carbon surrounds add even more striking emphasis to the large side air intakes in the front bumper. Naked carbon covers for the exterior mirrors add further, specifically sporty highlights.

The rear end of the open-top luxury liner also receives a visual upgrade. The BRABUS carbon diffusor provides the perfect backdrop for the two dual ceramic tailpipes of the BRABUS sport exhaust system. The BRABUS carbon rear spoiler on the trunk lid creates an aerodynamic balance between the front and rear axle. Carbon attachments for the side air outlets in the rear bumper round out the sporty lines perfectly.

A thrilling design, maximum quality and further enhanced driving dynamics are the outstanding traits of the BRABUS Monoblock wheels, which are available for the Mercedes S-Class Cabriolet in various sizes with diameters between 18 and 22 inches.

To be able to enjoy the enormous performance including the phenomenal top speed of the BRABUS 850 6.0 Biturbo variant to its full extent, the high-performance cabriolet is fitted with BRABUS Monoblock “PLATINUM EDITION” 21-inch forged wheels, which come in various designs. The use of state-of-the-art forging technology in their production results in an optimal combination of maximum strength and low weight. The wheels are mounted in sizes 9Jx21 on the front axle and 10.5Jx21 at the rear to make full use of the available space in the wheel wells. BRABUS selected Continental, Pirelli and YOKOHAMA high-performance tires of sizes 255/35 ZR 21 at the front and 295/30 ZR 21 on the rear axle as the optimal solution.

In addition, a BRABUS 22-inch tire/wheel combination is optionally available. The BRABUS Monoblock G “Platinum Edition” forged wheels of size 9Jx22 on the front axle are shod with size 255/30 ZR 22 tires, the size 10Jx22 wheels at the rear are fitted with tires of size 295/25 ZR 22.

The BRABUS lowering module is specifically calibrated to the use of these ultra-low-profile tires. It lowers the ride height of the open-top 2+2-seater by about 15 millimeters (.6 in).

BRABUS also refines the interior of the S-Class Cabriolet by customer request. This includes scuff plates with backlit BRABUS logo, whose colors change in sync with the various colors of the ambient interior lighting, and BRABUS genuine carbon interior components, which replace the production wood inlays and trim strips in the cockpit. Aluminum components such as the BRABUS RACE paddle shifters, pedals and door pins add markedly sporty highlights. The BRABUS speedometer with 400-km/h (250-mph) matches the tremendous performance potential of the vehicle.

The company upholstery shop has just the right thing for customers looking for an even more customized interior. A BRABUS fine leather captivates not only with its practically endless variety of colors and materials, but above all with its outstanding quality of workmanship.

The BRABUS 850 6.0 Biturbo Cabrio is available as a complete car or can be built on the basis of any current Mercedes S 63 Cabriolet.
