A Look at the 2017 AC Schnitzer BMW 5-Series: A Fusion of Elegance and Motorsport Performance
The German tuning specialist, AC Schnitzer, took the 2017 BMW 5-Series sedan and wagon models to new heights, introducing not only engine enhancements but also stylistic adjustments that made these models the cynosure of all eyes. The cars were unveiled on the 13th of August, with their promise of high sporting pedigree making a significant buzz in the automotive circles.
Engine Enhancements and Performance Upgrades
AC Schnitzer made significant strides in augmenting the 5-Series' performance capabilities, especially when it came to the engines. The BMW 540i, for example, saw an upgrade from 340 horsepower to a robust 400 horsepower. Simultaneously, the BMW 530d, in its AC Schnitzer iteration, saw a performance boost to 315 horsepower from its original 265 horsepower. With the promise of additional performance enhancements for other models such as the M550i, BMW 530i, and BMW 520d, the anticipation among BMW enthusiasts was palpable. AC Schnitzer also added its unique engine optics to all models.
Exhaust and Sound Modules
All petrol-engined models were outfitted with twin stainless steel silencers, each flaunting two chromed or black "Sport" tailpipes. AC Schnitzer also announced the addition of a sound module with remote control to all models, promising an immersive motorsport sound experience. However, owners of the 5-series Touring models had to wait a little longer for this particular enhancement.
Suspension and Aerodynamic Components
A key addition to all models was the AC Schnitzer suspension spring kit. It lowered the vehicle by approximately 25 mm at the front and around 20 mm at the rear, thus improving the ride quality over uneven terrains. Aerodynamic components were also integrated into the vehicles, contributing significantly to the sporting driving experience.
Interior Aesthetics and Wheelsets
AC Schnitzer paid special attention to the interior aesthetics of the 5-series saloon and Touring, equipping them with the aluminum pedal set, aluminum foot rest, aluminum "Black Line" cover for the BMW iDrive controller, an AC Schnitzer keyholder and velour foot mats. The array of wheelset combinations available to the models was extensive, all aiming to ensure that the 5-series' sporting exterior was well translated to the road.
A New Benchmark in Sports and Elegance
By combining increased dynamics, motorsport performance, and elegance, AC Schnitzer indeed raised the bar for the BMW 5-series saloon and Touring. With these enhancements, the tuner not only made these models more compatible with the racetrack, but also ensured that they could comfortably fit into everyday use. The introduction of these models marked a new era for the 5-series, showing the potential of these vehicles when their boundaries are pushed beyond the regular.
