ABT Sportsline Elevates Audi's RS6 and RS7 Legacy Editions with Innovative IWI Technology
The recently unveiled special models, 2023 Audi RS 6 and RS 7 Legacy Edition, are about to experience an even more potent surge of power, courtesy of ABT Sportsline. The renowned tuner has developed a groundbreaking technology that can boost the already impressive output of these vehicles' 4.0l bi-turbo engines to a staggering 1000 hp.
A Glimpse into the Power-Enhancing IWI System
Christened as IWI or Indirect Water/Ethanol-Injection, this system is strategically fitted ahead of the engine's two throttle valves. Coupled with the AEC system, it is governed by an electronic control unit specially designed by ABT Sportsline for this purpose. Thomas Biermaier, Managing Director of ABT Sportsline, explains that the technology leverages ethanol's excellent physical properties to achieve superior internal cooling of the engine. This allows for increased charge air or oxygen supply for fuel combustion, leading to a sustained higher performance.
Activating the Beast Within
The activation process for this novel technology is rather straightforward. It involves holding down the RS button on the steering wheel for one second while in one of the two RS modes during the drive cycle. Once activated, the additional horsepower is unleashed at your disposal whenever needed. With every spirited press of the accelerator pedal, you'll be commanding maximum performance from your RS 6 LE or RS 7 LE.
Optimized Engine Components: The Key to Unleashing 1000hp
To accommodate such a massive leap in power output, certain modifications are necessary. For instance, ABT Sportsline has integrated a carbon intake system with enlarged turbo air intakes and optimized turbochargers. The tuner also equipped the Audi models with special intercoolers featuring enlarged air intakes in the front apron. Further enhancements include forged pistons with compression reduction, reinforced connecting rods and piston pins, sports catalytic converter with petrol particle filter, an exhaust system, and additional oil coolers.
Additional Water/Ethanol Tank: The Power Source of IWI
The IWI system is fuelled by a dedicated tank located in the boot recess with a usable volume of 15 litres. The ABT IWI fluid can be refilled under the standard fuel filler flap, which ideally lasts for up to 3000 kilometres. The level of this fluid is monitored by a sensor and displayed either on the myABT app or via Apple CarPlay on the MMI. In addition to checking the tank level, users can also view many performance data of their vehicles using the myABT app.
