ABT Sportsline Unveils a Power-Packed Rendition of the VW Beetle Cabrio
The Bavarian tuner, ABT Sportsline, renowned for their work on Volkswagen Group vehicles, recently unveiled a significantly enhanced version of the Beetle Cabrio 2.0 TSI. This vehicle, which might be one of the smallest in its category, packs a punch well above its weight class with an impressive 260 hp / 191 kW output. While retaining the car's original charm, ABT's alterations have given the Beetle Cabrio an appreciable power boost and a performance makeover that turns heads and breaks stereotypes.
Upgraded Power Across the Board
What immediately caught my attention was the wide range of engine modifications. All of the Beetle Cabrio's engine variants have been subjected to ABT Power New Generation's innovative uprating. This new power management system, featuring its own control unit and software, ramps up the vehicle's output beyond their original specs, impacting the whole Beetle Cabrio line. Even the smallest 1.2 TSI engine receives a considerable boost, rising from a modest 105 hp / 77 kW to a more substantial 140 hp / 103 kW. Similarly, the 2.0 TDI model has seen its power upped from 140 hp / 103 kW to a more assertive 170 hp / 125 kW.
Improved Performance and Handling
ABT Sportsline's attention to detail extends beyond engine performance, with significant enhancements to the Beetle Cabrio's suspension and braking system. By lowering the suspension springs by 30mm on the front axle and 35mm on the rear axle, they have improved handling, making the Beetle Cabrio feel more connected to the road. Moreover, the improved brake system featuring 345 x 30 mm discs, steel flex lines, and black callipers emblazoned with the ABT logo contribute to a more secure and responsive driving experience.
A Subtle Yet Impactful Aesthetic Touch
ABT's transformation of the Beetle Cabrio isn't limited to performance upgrades. They've also given it an aesthetic overhaul, adding a distinct touch while respecting the car's iconic silhouette. The ABT Aero-Kit complements the Beetle Cabrio's round and appealing form with a front spoiler, head and tail light covers, a rear panel and a rear skirt set, all while avoiding the intrusion of a large spoiler. These alterations make the Beetle Cabrio stand out subtly, yet significantly from the standard models.
Customizable Wheel Options
In addition to performance and aesthetic upgrades, ABT offers customization options for the Beetle Cabrio's wheels. Owners can choose from several attractive DR 20'' gun-metal wheels or the ER-C and CR models in various colours and sizes. These customizable features provide a personal touch to the Beetle Cabrio, elevating its appeal even further.
Stepping Beyond the Norm
The ABT Sportsline's take on the Beetle Cabrio 2.0 TSI is a leap beyond the standard. This enhanced version combines improved performance, enhanced aesthetics, and a wider range of customization options, offering a compelling choice for those seeking a powerful compact car with a unique character. It truly proves that even the smallest creatures can deliver a mighty impact.
