GLC versus X3

Mercedes-Benz completely redesigned and renamed its Small Luxury SUV, the GLC, which is more than ready to take on rivaling, recently restyled, BMW X3.

For the 2016 model year, US customers get more options for the engine when looking at the X3. While the GLC offers (for now) only a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbo, X3 has a diesel alternative and a more powerful inline-6 3-liter option. Both SUV's offer rear and all wheel drive drivetrain options: 4MATIC system for the Benz and xDrive for the BMW. GLC comes with a 9-speed automatic transmission, while the older X3 has an 8-speed one.

Looking at the dimensions we get pretty close numbers. GLC has a longer wheelbase and sits slightly lower, which doesn't affect on the passenger head room.

Starting prices for both SUVs are perhaps coincidentally the same, from $38,950.
