2013 Peugeot 208 XY
And 2013 Peugeot 208 GTi
In Spring 2012, Peugeot rejuvenated the multipurpose Supermini car segment with the launch of the 208. This new model revolutionises the customer choice ith its compactness, elegance, occupant space, equipment, style ... At its wheel, the driver discovers a driving pleasure the like of which they have not experienced before.
The 208 is now also looking toward the Premium segment … with the 208 XY and 208 GTi which combine intrinsic qualities with those of comfort, versatility and occupant space. These two distinctive versions make their mark with strong and differentiated expressions. Furthermore, the 208 XY begins a new story within the Marque; that of cars with an exclusive and refined charm.
"With the 208 XY, Peugeot begins a new chapter in its story. With the 208 GTi, it re-generates an icon.”
Laurent Blanchet, Peugeot Product Range Director
"The style of these two cars intensifies the energy of the 208 with their more imposing posture, but also through the care taken over every detail.” Gilles Vidal, Peugeot Style Director
Intended for busy individuals with high expectations, the 208 XY and 208 GTi benefit from sophisticated choices of the materials and colours employed. Their dynamism is expressed first of all by their external identity, specific and immediately recognisable, due to their characteristic posture. Defined on a widened track by 10mm at the front and 20mm at the rear, these three-door models are specially identified by bodywork components which enhance the overall effect. With wheels that hug the arches, with body sills and wing extensions they enhance the visual appearance of these two cars.
Particularly enchanting, visible both day and night, the light signature of the front face is refined by the new halogen headlamps, equipped with a latest generation light guide. These carefully designed lamps with a rectangular internal structure use LED technology for the directional indicators and daytime lighting. Tightly enclosing the main beam headlamps, the floating trim of which calls to mind a cat's pupil, they give the expression of the 208 XY and 208 GTi with an iris.
These lamps frame a special 208 grille. The slightly widened chromed bead gives a prominence to the XY where on the GTi the mesh contributes to the dynamism, making the lamps stand out. This mesh is, in fact, different on each model. On the 208 XY, the chromed grille has three horizontal bars overhanging the black lacquered bar. On the 208 GTi, the gloss black grille draws the eye with bright chrome inserts, which reinvent the sport chequered flag effect but in 3D. The end result is a front appearance which is technological and endearing while being, sophisticated.
Attention to detail has also taken precedence in the design of the passenger compartment, to create a most pleasant environment. This applies even when stationary as it becomes evident at first glance when the door is opened, revealing the aluminium sill stamped with the Peugeot name. Dark colour schemes exist throughout the upper section, on the dashboard capping covered in polyurethane PVC and overstitched, the seat trims and special details … the 208 XY and 208 GTi offer unique ambiances, styled according to their lead mascot colour identity, respectively purple and red.
All the senses contribute to the pleasure of discovery. You admire, you inhale, and you touch the material, the finishes and the spectacle of the equipment. Like a designer dress, the passenger compartment ‘wears the signature’ of its creator in detailing and specifically the overstitching. It runs over the enveloping seats, the full grain leather steering wheel, the gear lever gaiter, the leather handbrake lever as well as the armrests in Prestige polyurethane PVC and the dashboard capping. This houses a high-mounted instrument panel with innovative and distinctive light signature. Echoing the LED functions of the headlamps, the dials are surrounded with satin chrome beads backlit by LEDs, whereas the needles move on a brushed aluminium background.
The passenger compartment is also punctuated with carefully designed components. So, the vents, the side decorations of the touchscreen, the dashboard decoration, the steering wheel insert, the seat belts, the front and rear door crossbars all blend with the same interior ambiance. The aluminium pedal bracket and footrest provide the final touch to this technological and refined interior.
"The 208 GTi and 208 XY are striking and clearly defined, reflecting the image of the customers for whom they are intended. This vision that has guided us throughout the project, has the desire to create an XY signature that will become identifiable over the journey of time.”
Pierre Authier, 208 Design Style Director
208 XY, urban chic and exclusive
Whether it be Monday, at 7am, where already a buzz reigns over the town, Thursday, 6pm, when the streets fill as offices close for the day or Saturday, at 9pm, when the town hums with the parties organised at various locations. Constantly on the move, the modern city beats to the rhythm of the pulses of its activities. Whatever the situation, the 208 XY moves around, with a stylish and dynamic presence.
The appealing attraction of the 208 XY enchants instantly. Adorned in its new colour ‘Purple Night’, among the six colours available, running from the front bumper to the special skirt of the rear bumper, its body is punctuated with chromed details, subtle touches of Purple on the Peugeot logos and the central wheel caps. The mirror casings, the foglamp trims, the window trims and the rear skirt bead are dressed in bright chrome. On the quarter panel trim and the centre pillar, touches of gloss black complete the image.
The grille combines these finer points of appearance. It brings together the gloss black of the bar with the bright chrome of the bead and the grille. The finely designed 17" diamond-Anthra Mercure multi-spoke wheels house in their centre an alloy wheel cap with Purple edging. At the rear, on the tailgate bears the ‘XY’ signature logo designed with dynamic graphics. Roof decals are available for personalisation, and the 208 XY offers an identity unlike any other in this sector – high on being ‘Exclusive’.
With a ‘light, bright’ appearance, the passenger compartment is a perfect reflection of the exterior. The materials and appearance are ‘tied’ together with Purple overstitching. A chrome embellishment covers the door trims, the vents and the side decorations of the screen. Enhanced by these touches, the metallic bronze Prestige polyurethane PVC dashboard brings together the touch interface and the instrument panel with a graduated bronze-black decoration.
The seats are trimmed in Mithy cloth, Prestige polyurethane PVC and Alcantara. At the driver's feet, the aluminium pedal bracket and footrest are accompanied by a mat of superior quality, edged with bronze cord overstitched in Purple.
This sophisticated and luxurious ambiance can be personalised with a range of special trims. After choosing between the Club Nappa leather, in black or bronze, and the black Club Nappa leather combined with a padded Alcantara make-up giving an exclusive and dynamic treatment, the 208 XY is even more intensely individual.
"From the outset we had a vision of colour, this Purple Night, which punctuates the bodywork and the interior of the 208 XY. Exclusive, it symbolises perfectly the refinement of this vehicle.”
Anna Costamagna, 208 XY and 208 GTi Design Stylist
The passenger compartment is not just luxurious; ergonomic, it is fully at the service of the driver. With their hands placed naturally on the small bronze perforated full grain leather steering wheel, they can control with their fingertips the large 7" touchscreen with extended connectivity (jack socket, USB and Bluetooth).
Uninterrupted, from their home to the workplace, their favourite music is played from a portable device by streaming and with a high level of quality, due to the six-speaker system. Having arrived at their destination with no wrong turns due to the navigation system, they simply have to activate the Park Assist. Rare in this vehicle segment, this technological equipment magnifies the compactness of the 208 XY to make driving in town considerably easier. Parking is now automated and becomes a pleasure. After activating the Park Assist, the driver selects the manoeuvre to be carried out on the touchscreen, parallel parking on the left or right-hand side of the road. Using ultrasound sensors, those of the front and rear parking assistance plus two side sensors at the front, the Park Assist measures the size of the spaces available until an adequate space is detected. The 208 XY then parks instinctively and automatically, by acting on the electric parking assistance. Relieved of this task, the driver simply has to check the progress of the vehicle and its surroundings... Almost magic!
To set off once more to conquer the city, nothing could be easier. They simply call on the intelligence of the Park Assist again.
In addition to the dynamic cornering lighting, the alarm, the heated seats, etc., this equipment can enrich an already extensive range of equipment: panoramic glass roof with ambiance backlighting, dual zone automatic air conditioning, speed limiter/cruise control, armrest for the front seats incorporating a storage space, … it is an extensive, luxurious environment.
The 208 XY is also available with a range of powerful engines, enhancing the natural efficiency of this model.
